Category:
Science & Engineering
Department:
Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering
Supervising Faculty Member:
Steven Caliari
Research Focus:

We design biomaterials to better understand how cells interpret signals from their environment during disease progression and tissue regeneration.

Position Description:

Students will be trained on how to do research: everything from reading papers and designing experiments to polymer synthesis, hydrogel fabrication and characterization, cell culture, and microscopy.

Required Skills:

N/A

Training/Certification:
Students must complete UVa's general lab safety and BSL 2 safety modules prior to beginning work in the lab.
What will you learn:

1) Read and critically interpret scientific literature.
2) Design experiments with proper controls and evaluation metrics.
3) Understand the basic principles of how engineered biomaterials can influence cell behavior.

Specialization:
Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, Mechanobiology
