The "Crafting Success of Underrepresented Scientists & Engineers" Project seeks to close the achieve gap for under-represented students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. For our study, under-represented students include women, racially minoritized, low-income, and first-generation college students. We use a combination of quantitative, qualitative, and observational data collection and analysis.
Students will help to conduct focus groups and interviews of students, as well as data analysis of this collected data. Some work with student records may be conducted, and later in the year, students may work with experiments.
1. How to collect and analyze qualitative data
2. A deeper understanding on the non-academic factors that may inhibit success for underrepresented students
3. Seeing the UVA student experience from a perspective different than your own
