Latinx Activation in the Shenandoah Valley is a research effort to put together information on the conditions that the rural Latinx population is in, while also working towards equitable solutions for a stronger future.

Social relationships are essential for a healthy human life, where relationships between mates (pair bonds) and between parents and offspring provide both physical and psychological benefits for the individuals involved.

One distinguishing hallmark of cancer cells includes a deregulated cellular metabolism that can be reprogrammed to preferentially exhibit dependence on glycolysis over oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) even in the presence of oxygen (Warburg Effect).

Recent studies have suggested associations between food consumption and cognitive performance. This study evaluates the relationships between self-perception of hunger and fullness, food consumed, and cognitive function in young children.

For this project, we are collaborating with The Juice Laundry (TJL), a local juice and smoothie bar, to research how consumers’ perceptions of a company’s authenticity influence their spending habits. The literature suggests that two types of authenticity include authenticity as consistency and authenticity as conformity.

Previously completed research in the field of motion magnification is applied to civil engineering concepts in the fields of damage identification. Motion magnification amplifies minute signals in videos to a large scale by modifying pixels based on similarities in color or motion.

This research explores the ways that whiteness impacts multiracial congregations.

This research’s main goal is to investigate individuals’ thoughts and feelings in different social contexts and see how an online training targeting people’s thoughts about situations might lead to changes in everyday life.

Many human health studies require complex equipment and unwieldy wiring to accurately measure bodily functions such as heart rate. In this age of smartphones and smartwatches, potential study participants may already own an iPhone which tracks steps and sleep or an Android watch with a sensitive accelerometer and continuous heart rate monitoring.

The da-Vinci Surgical System (dVSS) is a tele-robotic surgical system that provides surgeons with enhance dexterity, precision, and control in performing minimally invasive surgical procedures like laparoscopic surgery. To be able to use this technology, surgeons have to receive accreditation and proper technical training for these procedures.

Obesity is a growing epidemic that increases the risk of chronic diseases in children and adults. Biologically, obesity is the excessive accumulation of triacylglycerol (TAG), a storage lipid that constitutes most of human body fat. Lipin is a phosphatidate phosphatase (PAP) enzyme involved in regulating the biosynthesis of triacylglycerol.

Diseases can strongly affect host community and population dynamics by being a source of mortality. However, their impact on host competition has received less attention.

The research goal seeks to understand how a gene functions in the maintenance of the lungs in adult mouse lines. The gene of interest is CBP, which plays a fundamental role in early embryonic development and tumor growth.

Purpose: Prediabetes can be characterized as impaired fasting glucose (IFG) with or without impaired glucose tolerance (IGT; 2-hr blood glucose). However, whether people with IFG and/or IFG+IGT have elevated lactate concentrations compared to normal glucose tolerant (NGT) controls is unclear.

Metal-organic framework (MOF) materials are a novel organic-nonorganic hybrid formed from relatively inexpensive starting materials. Known for their high surface area and porosity, they have a wide range of applications in catalysis, gas separation, and drug delivery.
