Abstract:

*Hi! I was very ill all last week and am catching up now, this is my working abstract until I am able to return to UVA and touch base with my supervisor, Erin Vines, who reached out to Brian Cullaty to explain my situation* We implemented an intervention to help community college students find value in their math classes at Chattanooga State Community College in Tennessee. We’ve adapted a previous intervention to this new contex. To do so, we've elicited feedback from faculty and students and then incorporated that feedback into new iterations of our activity. Students rank quotes within the activity in order of relatablity and also provide feedback. We incorporate this feedback to make the activity better and more relevant to them. We explore whether our adaptation efforts have made the quotes in the activity more relatable to students. Ultimately, we hope that students will relate to the quotes in the math activity and that will allow them to more easily find value in their math class.
