Abstract:

Previously completed research in the field of motion magnification is applied to civil engineering concepts in the fields of damage identification. Motion magnification amplifies minute signals in videos to a large scale by modifying pixels based on similarities in color or motion. This involves damage identification in structures prior to this damage being visible to the naked eye, using high speed camera technologies in combination with motion magnification. Possible results include finding structural faults prior to damage occurring on a visible level. This work could possibly be applied to augmented reality technology for real-time analysis of structures.
