Research Focus:

Our research team, the Study of Early Education through Partnerships, engages in research-policy partnerships with the goal of improving early childhood education at scale. We prioritize responding to the needs of our partners—like the Virginia Department of Education—in real time as they work to support educators, families, and young children. Your role in processing, cleaning, and analyzing survey data will help ensure that families’ voices are heard in future decision-making surrounding subsidy policy.

Position Description:

This summer, we are fielding a large-scale survey of families across Virginia who have recently applied to receive child care subsidies. These subsidies are a key policy lever for increasing access to child care for families with low incomes, but there are not currently enough funds to serve all eligible families. We aim to help state policymakers better understand families’ experiences with child care and challenges faced while on the waitlist for child care subsidies. As a student researcher, you will process paper survey responses and clean their data. You will also analyze qualitative survey data to identify trends across Virginia families’ experiences with accessing child care. Your work analyzing family reflections on child care assistance will ultimately help the state craft more responsive policy.
